WWII - Home Front

Step back in time to Britain on the Home Front at our World War II / 1940's Event. Historic wartime road and military vehicles will be on display and mingling with our vintage trams from the 1940's period. You will be entertained with war-time songs from a variety of entertainers throughout the day including:  Jayne Darling; Kevin Mac; Marina Mae;The Bluebird Belles and Peter Wayre.

From the middle of April until late May is the time to visit the bluebell woods of Britain.

Late April to early May is the time to visit the
Early Purple Orchids in Cressbrook Dale
in the Derbyshire Peak District


Ransoms (Wild Garlic) can also be seen in abundance in the Derbyshire Peak District at this time of year

In May and early June,The Little Grebe and Water Voles can be found on The Cromford canal in Derbyshire.

RAF Cosford Air Show 2017
Sunday 11th June 2017

The RAF Cosford Air Show is one of the West Midland’s most popular outdoor events, with over 50,000 people visiting the show in 2016.

The Air Show will again be an Advanced Ticket Only event, a decision which has helped the organising team improve traffic management in recent years. Those who book their tickets early will also be rewarded with a reduced ‘early-bird’ ticket price of only £22.00 which is recommended to avoid disappointment.

Mid-June is a good time to visit the Farne Islands
for bird photography.
A good place to stay is Seahouses and use Billy Shiel's boats.

Another place for you bird Photographers is
The Bass Rock
which is situated just off the coast at North Berwick.

Edwardian Event

Following the continued popularity of our Edwardian Event, it will be repeated in 2017, including some World War I anniversary elements.

WW2 Home Front / 1940s Event

Saturday 12th August and Sun 13th August 2017

Step back in time to the 1940s with our World War II- Home front event, which returns for two days. Vintage trams will mix with military vehicles and re-enactors, while wartime fayre will be served in Rita's Tearooms and the Red Lion Pub will offer drinks and traditional pub games.

War time songs will complete the nostalgia and there will be a 'Boot Camp' for children.

During the first or 2nd week in Aug you can see expanses of heather starting to appear in the Derbyshire Peak district and it is usuallly at its best towards the end of August. A good place to start is Over Owler Tor or Surprise View (both near Hathersage)


Scampton Airshow 2017
9th and 10th September


The airshow will offer five hours of flying displays, ranging from modern fast jets to historic aircraft, with public viewing areas on the South East side of the airfield. There will also be static displays located on the taxiways within the public area.


Coming by car

All Standard Admission ticket holders will have to use the free shuttle bus from the nearby Lincolnshire Showground. Drivers arriving to the Lincolnshire Showground can follow the postcode LN2 2NA, which will get them to the general area. Local road restrictions will be in place around the immediate vicinity, so please follow signs and marshals for the final part of your journey.

Nottingham Goose Fair 2017
4th - 8th October

With more than 700 years of history, Nottingham Goose Fair is one of Europe's most famous travelling fairs, and is still a fantastic event that delights all ages.

Late November at Donna Nook, Lincolnshire is the time to photograph the North Atlantic Grey Seals & pups.

(Sat & Sun only due to the seals being on an RAF firing range that isnt used at weekends only)

(please note that photohgraphers are now discouraged from going on the beach)
